Yellowstone – Lamar Valley

Thursday, September 29th, 2011

I’m back in Yellowstone Park.  Everything should be shutdown by now but the weather is glorious. Here’s some fall color along the Lamar River in the north edge of the park.

Lopez Island

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

I camped at Odlin County Park on the north end of Lopez Island yesterday. Great campsite overlooking Upright Channel, Shaw and Orcas Islands. The biking is great too! Here’s a shot through the trees on the south end looking over McArdle Bay toward Smith Island. The fog hadn’t quite burned off yet.

Moab, Utah

Monday, October 19th, 2009

I’m in Moab tonight. I spent the day in the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. This is a stretch of the Colorado River, east of Moab.

SE Oregon

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

I escaped from Bryce Canyon through a snow flurry a couple of days ago. I’m on Malheur Lake near the Wildlife Refuge.

I did a CCW loop around the Steens Mountains today. Get the best burgers and shakes in SE Oregon at Fields Station. Here’s a view of the Alvord Desert on the east side.

This is an eastern view of part of the Steens Mountain Range.

Lake Tahoe

I did the CCW lake loop today. This is from the Cave Rock viewpoint looking West toward Mt. Rubicon.

At 5 o’clock I wandered into D.L. Bliss State Park. This is Emerald Bay looking north.

Here’s the same critters later from across the marsh through the heat shimmer.

I’m back in Oregon! Here’s the Buena Vista Wayside near Gold Beach.

I’m camped for the night at Cape Blanko. It’s the westernmost spot on the continental US. Here’s tonight’s sunset. There are supposed to be gale force winds later tonight! If you don’t hear from me after this I got blown east…

Canyon De Chelley

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

I stopped at Canyon De Chelley (“de shay”) on the the way to Monument Valley. It’s a labyrinth of canyons carved into the plains near Four Corners. This is a view of the White House ruin.

Snow is on the way, so I’ve teleported to the Bay Area. I’m going to start up Highway 1 from the San Francisco tomorrow morning.

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

This is where the road to Fort Pickens used to be at Pensacola National Seashore. It was washed out by hurricanes Ivan and Katrina. I’m off to Apalachicola tomorrow and then to Fort Desoto to check out the start of the Everglades Challange race.

This is Navarre Beach. It’s east of Pensacola, part of the same barrier island chain.

Big Bend NP

Monday, February 19th, 2007

Big Bend National Park is in southern Texas, bordered on the bottom by the Rio Grande River. This is a view to the west from Chisos Basin through The Window.

I drove south along the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive and put my toe in the Rio Grande river at Santa Elena Canyon. That’s Mexico over there.
